Feedback from participants

  • It was a wonderful, thought-provoking day.
  • Informative, enjoyable. Sometimes sad, sometimes joyful.
  • I cried, laughed shared, deeply – and connected with new people. A fabulous first experience.
  • For me, at my stage of this journey, it was a wonderful experience. I’ll be back.
  • It was a lovely and, as ever, healing, day.
  • A great mix of speakers.
  • I found the personal stories particularly moving.
  • Every talk, in their different ways, with different stories and approaches, was genuinely engaging. I found I wanted each to go on more…

Guest speaker: Person Irresponsible
Like the best adventures, healing hurts

The author and presenter, enigmatically known as Person Irresponsible, was a third
country kid who rebelled against being sent “home” to boarding school. Having lived
in 15 countries and never settled, she had always assumed that the problem was her
rather than the system. She fell out of this delusion quite abruptly, as she relates…

Author of Everywhere I NEVER Wanted To Go and Everything You Ever Taught Me
Presenter of Boarding School is not OK

  • Person Irresponsible was brilliant.
  • An extraordinarily good presentation by Person Irresponsible.

Guest speaker: Anne Power
The Boarding School Survivor falls in love, but where will it lead?

Annie, a psychotherapist and relationship expert grounded in attachment theory,
considers how years spent in boarding school may affect our attachment patterns and
experience in couple relationships. Core attachment style, laid down in the first two
years of life – but made more or less secure by subsequent events – has a key role in
how young adults manage long-term partnerships: and a history of boarding can
                   profoundly influence the outcome.

  • Anne Power had some fascinating stuff to say.
  • Anne Power … had excellent knowledge, skills and information.

Personal Story: Caroline Rollings
                   Boarding School Survivor

  • Valuable just to hear individual stories, what they’ve overcome and how they’ve done it (or not).
  • I really appreciated the open honesty.

Personal Story: Chris Braitch
                   Finding Hope and Healing

  • Chris Braitch’s talk really resonated and very much reflected my adult life experience.
  • I think personal tales are always powerful. Showing how to be strong in vulnerability is a great lesson.
